SNOOP LION; The Artist Formerly Known As Snoop Dogg

After spending some recent time in Jamaica, Snoop Dogg returned a Lion; after a religious and artistic awakening. Rastafarian priests bestowed the, "Snoop Lion" name upon the former Rap superstar when he visited Jamaica in his search for "a new path."

"I didn't know that until I went to the temple, where the High Priest asked me what my name was, and I said, 'Snoop Dogg' And he looked me in my eyes and said, 'No more. You are the light; you are the lion.' From that moment on, it's like I had started to understand why I was there," he explained at a press conference.

Snoop, born Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr., has always felt a special connection with Jamaica's most celebrated music legend, according to news.com.au. "I have always said I was Bob Marley reincarnated," says Lion. "I feel I have always been a Rastafari. I just didn't have my third eye open, but it's wide open right now."

This spiritual journey has seemingly opened another chapter in Lion's artistic career. After years in the Rap, Hip-Hop, Pop industry, the scene started to go flat for the 40-year-old musician. Ever since the beginning, Snoop has been a gangster/pimp icon in the rap world.. But Lion welcomes musical change and growth.

"I've been on the top ever since I've been in it," he explained. "I got rap songs that will never die. And that ain't with no disrespect but I'm tired of rap."

While in the studio, Lion proclaimed his new self as someone completely different from his old persona saying, "F*** Snoop Dogg. Don't think about none of the s*** he rapped about: hustling and making money and drug-dealing and shooting. All that s***'ll be out of here."

Lion explained that ever since his start in the Rap industry, he has always wanted to be able to perform for the children and his grandparents, however the dialogue of past performances were not necessarily appropriate for such a crowd.

"I'm a wise man in the music industry," he said. "Not that I'll never do rap again because I'm always gonna do what I love, but right now I'm Snoop Lion and I'm having fun with this reggae movement so hopefully you guys will enjoy it as well."

Keep you eyes out for Vice Films' upcoming documentary showing Snoop's recent transformation from Snoop Dogg to Snoop Lion. This documentary will be featured at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7 of this year.

Kabanjak & Fat Albert Einstein Remix Contest

A hot contender for this year‘s favourite summer soundtrack: Kabanjak and Fat Albert Einsteindeliver their stunning melodica dub project „Dub O‘ Dup“!
Kabanjak is the producer behind many of the versatile outings from Switchstance Recordings – the German label on which the American soundsmith Fat Albert Einstein released his album „After The Beep“ in 2011. Now both come together for a trans-atlantic outing which is deeply rooted in the Jamaican dub styles of masters like King Tubby or Augustus Pablo in the 1970s and takes their concepts into the NOW:
Bass and rhythm are the body. Melodies and harmonies are the mind. Delays and reverbs are the spirit.
Multi-instrumentalists Kabanjak and Fat Albert Einstein once again show the many facets of  their trade, both composing using bass, guitars, organ and various keys; most importantly melodica. Add to this Fat Al's tough live drums and Kabanjak's employment of flutes, percussions and general sound wizardry on the boards. The result of this alchemy is called „Dub O‘ Dup“, a truly dubbed-out piece.
„Dub O‘ Dup“ is an instrumental journey, echoing between contemplative chillaxation and more uptempo-oriented tunes, all the while paying homage to the original dub founders – and even paving a way into the future of sonic exploration: Aside from the six tracks and an Ancient Astronauts remix, the EP comes with a sample kit to enter the exclusive „Dub O‘ Dup“ remix contest!
The „Dub O‘ Dup EP“ by Kabanjak & Fat Albert Einstein is released on Switchstance RecordingsJuly 6th 2012 via most music download portals.

Dazed X Sonos Evolution Of Music DJ COMPETITION

Deadline: Sunday 1st July (23:59 GMT)

For the past 20 years Dazed & Confused have been championing mixes from the world's most exciting new artists, producers, labels and DJs. In the past month alone we have featured selections from Chicago house head Tevo Howard, the intergalactic sounds of Brainfeeder records and the bass heavy Numbers-signed Kodiak, to name a few. Now, in collaboration with Sonos, we present the Evolution of Listening, a new mix tape competition giving you the chance to share your hottest 20 minute music selections with the world.

Helping us to unearth the biggest mixes are some of the world's most exciting DJs, including: Andy Votel, techno shapeshifter Actress, new wave, italo and house expert Veronica Vasicka and The 2 Bears' Raf Daddy.

Sonos are forging the way for at-home music systems and changing the way we listen. We're looking for mixes that reflect that sense of evolution, that show an ever-changing experience of music. Mixes can be from a specific time period or genre, but must meet this criteria if they're to be successful.

The winner will be invited to create a new mix to be featured as the Dazed mix of the month, be profiled online, plus have their home kitted out in £1000 worth of Sonos gear.
